Q1: Who teaches Professional Development Academy courses?
A: These courses are based on real industry experience and are taught by industry professionals who meet the teaching qualifications for California Community Colleges.

Q2: Will I receive a Certificate of Completion for my Customer Appreciation class?
A: Only after you complete the other two classes (Mastering Communication & Dealing with Difficult People) in the Superior Service course. Certificates of Completion are issued by the College hosting the series of classes and are provided to the student, upon completion of the series.

Q3: How long have Community Colleges been providing onsite training for employers?
A: Just about as long as they have been in existence. This service to the business community is not new, but can be a key resource in helping employers grow and prosper.

Q4: How do I register for a class or series of classes?
A: Check out the training schedule for the college nearest to your home or office. If your local community college does not have a class schedule that meets your needs, call 1-877-855-5929 and a regional coordinator will help you find the class you need.

Q5: Why is not every class listed being offered at my local community college?
A: Classes are offered based on community need or at the request of a partnering business holding classes at their site. We cannot guarantee that all the classes we have will be running at any given time. If you are interested in offering a particular class at your place of business or community group, call the contact at the community college in your region. He or she can tell you about the options of bringing the training classes at our choosing to your work or community group.

Q6: How can the Community College's offer courses for FREE?
A: The Community Colleges in San Diego and Imperial counties received an Economic and Workforce Development Grant from the State Chancellor's Office to develop training programs to meet the business community's needs and the State of California reimburses community colleges for training costs when minimum enrollment is met.

Q7: Are Supervision courses designed for seasoned supervisors and managers?
A: Whether you are a seasoned manager looking to brush-up on your skills or an aspiring supervisor, Supervision courses will better prepare you to face the challenges of leading productive teams.

Q8: How long are the Customer Service, Frontline and Supervision training sessions?
A: Typically 3 hours each, but some colleges offer a 6-hour program.

Q9: Do you have courses in Spanish?
A: YES, Customer Service is available, but only when a group of Spanish-speaking participants requests it with a minimum of 20-26 people.

Q10: Do you have courses in English as a Second Language?
A: YES, There are 12 courses available in Vocational English as a Second Language which focus on developing the communication skills students will need to function more effectively in a healthcare and hospitality related work field.

Q11: How long are the English at Work Healthcare and Hospitality courses?
A: Typically 30 hours each, but some colleges may offer a 15-hour program.

Q12: Are the English at Work Healthcare and Hospitality courses designed for employees from the healthcare and hospitality industries?
A: Whether you are currently employed or seeking employment in the healthcare and hospitality industries, the English at Work Healthcare and Hospitality courses prepare a student for career ladder or employment opportunities in those fields.

Q13: What levels are the English at Work Healthcare and Hospitality courses?
A: There are two levels, a low to intermediate and an intermediate to advanced level for each course.

Q14: Will I receive a Certificate of Completion for my Healthcare Workplace Communications I course?
A: Only after you complete the other class topics (Communicating with Guests, Visitors, and Vendors, Using the Telephone, etc.) in the Healthcare Workplace Communications I course. Certificates of Completion are issued by the College hosting the series of classes and are provided to the student, upon completion of the series.

Q15: The class I am interested in taking is not being offered. What should I do?
A: Go to the College Locator page, and find the College nearest you. Call or email the contact person listed for that college. They may have information about when that class will be offered.

Q16: Does the Professional Development Academy offer job placement?
A: NO, The Professional Development Academy does not directly find jobs for participants; however, there are career centers at your local community college that post information about job opportunities from employers and other agencies.

Q17: I want to make arrangements to have a class onsite, and my employer meets the criteria, what are my next steps?
A: Contact the Community College in your area and they will make all the arrangements.
